Frequently Asked Questions.
Is it a form of Micarta?
No. The manufacturing process for Fibermascus is entirely different.
Does it use the same resin as Micarta?
No. While phenolic resin is used in the manufacturer of some Fibermascus the resin system is different. High temperature epoxy is also used for some styles depending on the pattern, color, and desired properties.
Will Fibermascus shape and finish just like Micarta?
No. It is not Micarta. Normal finishing techniques used by knifemakers should be sufficient. Fibermascus might take some getting used to, as with any new material.
Is Fibermascus expensive?
No. Not considering the material cost and hand labor involved in it's manufacturer.
Fibermascus costs more than similar size and thickness pieces of Micarta. How come?
Micarta, G10, and graphite fiber are mass produced in factories. Fibermascus is made by hand, one "billet" at a time.
A 3/16" piece of Fibermascus is not ½ the price of a 3/8" piece. How Come?
The time required to make, cure, and finish a 3/16" piece is nearly as great as that required for a 3/8" piece. Some styles would actually be more difficult and time consuming to make in thinner pieces.
What colors are available?
Fibermascus can be made in about any color or combination of colors.
What weight fabric material is used in the manufactured of Fibermascus?
Fibermascus can be made from just about any thickness of cloth. Fibermascus test pieces have been made from clothe as thin as .003 and as thick as .035.
What styles of Fibermascus do you have in stock?
Pieces of Fibermascus ready for immediate shipment will be listed on the Available page.
How would I order a stock piece of Fibermascus or custom piece of Fibermascus?
Email a description of what you would like order or a request for quotation to griner@fibermascus.com.
Do you request payment up front?
No. Payment would not be expected until the Fibermascus was ready to ship. A minimum deposit might be requested for custom pieces, depending on the order.
Could graphite fiber be used to make Fibermascus?
Yes.
